The silkworms served up at the stalls in Beijing taste pretty much as you described the South African worms. The scorpions on a stick weren't so bad. Jellyfish (our wedding entree) were just pointless. And durian is digusting, though my wife disagrees. My mother in law likes to suck the eyeballs out of fish.

Hi Brian

When you were in Jogjakarta you should have tried the BATS! I didn't but my boyfriend did! They were smoked and about six centimetres long. He said that they tasted just like beef jerky.

cheers

Well, thankfully it wasn't me, but my brother-in-law ate a piece of cat dung that he mistook for Italian sausage. I guess that wouldn't be considered a delicacy here in the U.S., but elsewhere, you just never know!

That Fetus egg pic nearly made me vomit, but other than that, this is an awesome post. My wife and I always try to find odd things we've never eaten...and eat them. My wife had live drunken shrimp near Ningbo, China. That's about as far as we've gotten so far...I think Africa and Asia are the hot spots for the really "interesting" ones.

Thanks Brian!

You've just turned me off my dinner for the next week!

Although I did try snake blood in Vietnam - apparently it's considered especially good for bad backs!

Keep up the stories!
cheers
