The Melbourne Couch Surfing Summer Fest.
January 22nd, 2009
It’s only one week till the ‘official’ launch of ‘Sleeping Around – A couch surfing tour of the globe’. And although the book has been in bookshops for a couple of weeks I timed my launch to coincide with the 1st Melbourne CS Summer Fest. According to the Summer Fest website: ‘The Melbourne CouchSurfing Summer Fest 2009 is about celebrating our CouchSurfing community and showcasing to the world how amazing Melbourne really is!’ Events in the week-long celebration (which begins this weekend on the 24th) include a Graffiti Party, a Scavenger Hunt, an Afternoon of Lawn Bowls, a Puffing Billy day trip and an International Potluck dinner. Melbourne isn’t the first city to hold a Couch surfing ‘Fest’, however. Other cities to hold a ‘Fest’ include London (with a ‘Wild Disco Night’), Paris (with a ‘Perfectly Peaceful ‘P’ Picnic’), Prague (with a Common Dinner Party’), Milan (with a ‘Holy Mass’ – where the CS Bishop will bless all our couches) and even Antarctica had a ‘Fest’ (although they only had one event with 3 confirmed attendees – and one maybe!). And one that I’m sad I missed was the Finland ‘Fest’. They had some great events like the ‘Evening meeting to see who’s turned up’ (67 turned up) and a ‘Finnish Sauna’ with 63 attendees including a lot of girls called Anna!
