A very hot book launch.

February 1st, 2009

I’ve only just cooled down enough from my book launch on Thursday night to finally update my blog! And what a scorcher of a night it was (in both respects!). Half an hour before kick-off it was 43.1 degrees (110 in the old money) and I was worried that folk would be sitting under their ACs at home rather than coming out and tackling the heat. But, bless them all, about 70 people risked dehydration and heat stroke to hear me waffle on about sleeping around the globe. The other problem with a hot night is that the bar tab soon ran out because beers were going down faster than Melbourne’s train system (oh, and Couch Surfers LOVE a free drink!). All in all a very nice night – I sold a few books, drank a few ice cold Coronas and caught up with friends and family. And, best of all, no one fainted. At my last launch a girl collapsed onto a table halfway through my reading – she was either a HUGE fan and it was all too much for her or most likely because I just waffled on for too long.

Here are a few pics from the night (thank you Carissa Dyett!)…

Sorry I missed the launch, but I am halfway through your book and absolutely loving it! Thanks for a very funny and great read. I’ll have to read all your other ones now!

Brian, Are you going to do a launch in Brisbane?

    Hi Debs

Sorry, no launch for Brisbane, but I probably will be doing a few ’sessions’ at the Brisbane Writer’s Festival (9th to 13th September) talking about Couch Surfing and generally just waffling on like I normally do!

    Hi Clint

I would love to go to Perth. I could do a book reading on Cottesloe Beach!

I think you should email my publisher and tell them that I really NEED to go to Perth :)

Loved Sleeping Around and have just today finished Rule No 5: No Sex on the Bus. Sorry you won’t get any money from my enjoyment as I borrowed both from the library!
Might take up couch surfing once my 2 young kids leave home (both under 6).
Rule No 5 brought back memories (good and bad) of my one and only Contiki tour in 1996 – think I was the only person who didn’t bonk or drink their way through a 16 day tour! Maybe I should have though as I separated from my husband (who had stayed home) about a month later. Just think of all those hot Italian men I could have had foreign relations with!
Thinking about it – I would enjoy couch surfing in Italy a lot!!

    Cheers
